How to deal with your child’s lack of confidence

All parents would love to give their children the best in education. Getting them started on the right foot would necessitate them to be admitted into an excellent international school in Tokyo. Confidence is one essential element to be instilled at an early age. Children who lack confidence tend to fail at things or give up easily when the going gets tough. This has nothing to do with their abilities or talents, its mere lack of confidence.  However, if you notice that your ward is struggling in school despite all these measures, it might be necessary for you to take a few additional steps.

Get involved

It’s always good when parents show some interest in their child’s school activities. It could be anything from asking them what they learned in school that day or spending time with them while doing their homework. In international Kindergarten, this involvement is encouraged from kindergarten level.

Positive reinforcement

Parents are usually wary about rewarding their children with gifts for academic performance. However, other methods of encouragement can help build a positive attitude towards academics in your kids. Simple gestures like praises, hugs and high fives serve as great positive reinforcers motivating them to perform well.

Respect hard work

Acknowledge your child’s efforts towards accomplishing a task, and do not reserve your praises only for a positive outcome. It will build a positive attitude towards pushing themselves to achieve goals and not getting discouraged by failure.

Setbacks are lessons

Help your child understand that the mistakes they make today are lessons for tomorrow as long as they don’t repeat them. They’re at the perfect age to learn from their mistakes and develop tactics to work on those areas of academics that they find challenging.
